Change of chairmanship at the Dutch Security Industry

Laetitia Griffith says goodbye as chairman of the Dutch Security Industry. Ard van der Steur, former Minister of Security and Justice, is nominated as her successor.

Laetitia Griffith was first appointed eight years ago as chairperson of the Dutch Security Industry and was reappointed three times. The board of the Dutch Security Industry expressed its gratitude for Griffith’s efforts to make the industry a respected partner for the government and organized business:

"During her presidency, she was right to put a strong emphasis on the professionalism and integrity of security officers and the quality of services. Moreover, in times of economic crisis and major changes in the field of security (less police, higher terrorist threat), she has put private security on the map, while also paying a lot of attention to the position of SMEs. She has worked with passion for public-private partnerships and mutual exchange of information between the partners in the security chain to make the Netherlands safer. We are grateful to her that she has strengthened the position of the security industry in recent years. "

The board of the Dutch Security Industry thinks it is a shame to have to say goodbye to the current chairperson, but also looks forward to working with her successor Ard van der Steur, who has extensive experience in the security domain. "He is the right frontman to further strengthen the position of the industry and to provide her with a sharper accent and significance within society."

Ard van der Steur is highly motivated to further implement the multi-annual Policy Plan "Quality in Security" (2018-2021) of the Dutch Security Industry. One of his points of interest will be the further modernization of the training of security guards. This would be necessary because new requirements are imposed on security companies, for example when it comes to integrating services with technology. According to Van der Steur, it is also important that the sector becomes more attractive for young people. "As an expert security professional within the industry and beyond, you get many opportunities for interesting follow-up steps," says Van der Steur.

Ard van der Steur (1969) worked as a lawyer for a long time after his studies. From 2010 to 2015, he was a member of the Dutch Lower House and, among other things, spokesperson for security and justice. From 2015 to 2017, Van der Steur was Minister of Security and Justice. After his retirement, he started working as a director of a law firm. In addition, he fulfils various social functions.

The Dutch Security Industry promotes the interests of companies that are involved in security and risk management with regard to people, objects and operations. Of all security employees in the Netherlands, 90% work at a company that is affiliated with the Dutch Security Industry.
